SKREAM & BENGA
Before dubstep even had a name, Skream and Benga were shaping its foundations in South London. Raised in Croydon and nurtured through the legendary Big Apple Records under DJ Hatcha’s mentorship, they helped define a new sound built on deep sub-bass, skittering rhythms and raw, system-driven energy. Alongside Digital Mystikz and Loefah, they formed the core of dubstep’s first wave, a movement that would transform global dance music.
Skream evolved into a genre-spanning selector, renowned for his marathon Open To Close sets and fearless musical range. Benga, a teenage prodigy, carved out dubstep’s boldest edges with early releases like Skank/Dose and the seminal Diary of an Afro Warrior.
